The Panpipe

The panpipe was played in Ancient Greece over a thousand years ago. It has existed also in China and in South America, but it is not clear where the panpipe originated. One Hebrew Historian believes that even Moses learned to play a panpipe instrument while growing up in Pharaoh's Court and continued to play it during his 40 years of shepherding before his burning bush experience and call to lead the Israelites from Egypt.
The panpipe is the ancestor of the pipe organ, but panpipe itself almost faded out in history. In Mozart´s opera, the Magic Flute, bird-catcher Papageno plays the panpipe. However, in Romania, the panpipe has been the flute of the shepherd and became an instrument for traditional music.
